My Teaching Philosophy

While studying to obtain my Early Childhood Education diploma at Humber Polytechnic, I had the honour of taking a class called The Reflective Professional. We learned to create a resume and cover letter, learned about registering with the College Of Early Childhood Education, and so much more. We even had the opportunity to create and build our our teaching philosophy.  Which my teaching philosophy is that Teaching and Learning is like Teaching a Bird To Fly.

Teaching and Learning is     like Teaching a Bird To Fly

I believe children are like baby birds. Vulnerable because they can't fly, but are protected until their taught.

I believe the families are like adult birds. They protect, feed, and teach the baby birds to fly before soaring off on their own like a child's parents/families. Teaching them all they need to know before venturing into the world independently.

I believe the community is like a nest. A second home, as community isn't just about where you live, it's the social interactions. Birds may build a nest in one place, but it's not the only place they can stay and connect with other birds. Similar to a child, they have various connections. Different schools, different classrooms, neighbourhoods, clubs or classes of interest, etc.

I believe the environment is like a sky. A place that provides endless opportunities once a bird can fly, and the places a child can/will go after they leave our care.

I believe the educator is a like a tree. They provide the basics but safe foundation until the bird and child is ready to move on.
